For kids, cooking is not just an activity they enjoy with you; it’s actually a way for them to learn about food, nature, science and creativity. And since it’s a yummy, and fun way to learn all about the culinary world, why don’t you dedicate some time during the weekend to let your kids delve into this delicious world?

While your inquisitive little cuties ask you a million and one questions as they master the kitchen, you should keep your eyes wide open and make sure they don’t handle knives, or any equipment that might cause them harm. Here’s what else you need to know:

-Take into consideration the nutritional needs of your kids. Avoid getting them used to recipes that exceed their normal caloric intake. Yes, you’ve gotta set some rules from the very beginning!

-If your kid has allergies, make sure you have the right alternatives to avoid a dangerous situation.

-Help your kids understand food, measurements and steps through an illustrated cookbook.

-Find a way to make a healthy alternative of their not-so-healthy recipe of choice by avoiding ingredients containing saturated fat, processed sugar and deep frying.

-Make sure the chosen recipe is an easy one. After all, they’re not Julia Child, and you don’t want to disappoint them from their first run!

-Shopping for food is a super fun activity! So, take them with you to the supermarket so they can take part in choosing the ingredients.

-Teach them organization by asking them to help you store the leftovers.
