CHARM SCHOOL: How to Spot a Gentleman

by Leonore Dicker

If you are indeed a lady, then you shouldn’t settle for anything less than a gentleman. The gentleman breed is sadly not the most common one, as it is slowly becoming extinct. Not to worry though, as there are several ways to spot a well-mannered, kind man.

A true Gentleman should always open the door for a lady, no matter her age. He should carry the groceries, assist with the luggage and always be courteous to those around.

His priority should be his lady’s comfort. When she is cold, he should offer his jacket – even if that leaves him only in a t-shirt in the freezing cold. He should pull the chair out for her when she is about to take a seat and should help her put on her jacket or coat when she is on her way out.

He should have table manners, be polite and say “please” and “thank you”, as well as stay calm and not be aggressive. He should never be rude to waiters. A man who talks down to others is unattractive. He shouldn’t have a single violent bone in him.

He should always make sure his lady gets home safely. When going for a stroll, he should walk closest to the curb to protect her from traffic. He should listen to what she has to say. The more attentive he is, the more he cares. He should be true to his word, and be trustworthy.

And Remember:

  • A man who makes fun of others and belittles them isn’t a gentleman
  • If he is close to his mother, it’s a good sign as it indicates that he respects women
  • A gentleman should always make a lady feel safe and appreciated
