Welcome to the late 60s and 70s, where the fabrics are sweet and the clothes are pretty. Yes, for the Fall/Winter 2020-2021 collection, Hedi Slimane brought back the sweet and sour memories of the rock’n’roll days. But it wasn’t just about the vintage flair or about the blazé attitude, but perhaps more about portraying the different personalities that made this decade what it was…and reinterpreting them into Celine’s codes and values.

The result was a charming mashup of good girls in checkered skirts and button down blouses, hippie women in long flowy bohemian dresses and belts, and the more upper-class ladies that showed off “tailleurs” and matching blazers. A lot of the fabrics used in the collection were reminiscent of the good old days, from the velvet jackets to the denim jeans and the leather jackets, while other styles added a bit modernization to the pieces – think women in jupe-culotte tuxedos and fit-forming maxi dresses. It was a trip down memory lane, but through Slimane’s lens.
