Color-blocking was definitely shining well and bright during New York Fashion Week, as Laura Kim and Fernando Garcia sent out Bella Hadid as an opening – and closing – act for Oscar De La Renta’s Fall/Winter 2020-2021 runway show. And just as we expected, the first daywear pieces were a combination of color-blocking hues that brought a little joy to winter’s anticipated hardships. Think bright colored coats on darker trousers, red garments matched with other bright pink numbers, and waist-cinchers that shined both in color and in delicate velour fabrics. There were knee-high boots, cute school-girl skirt-suits and ruffled volumes. The eveningwear part of the show was mostly an elegant selection of “party pieces” that highlighted the House’s ability to turn any simple piece into a chic and mighty ensemble. Of course, there were the show-stopping ruffled gowns that would definitely be red-carpet material when the time comes, and there were the cocktail dresses embellished with embroideries, feathers and all-things dreamy.
