Driven by her passion for pottery, Nayla Soussou translates her inspirations into authentic pieces that are made to add depth and soul to a space. Through her brand, Nayla’s Ceramics, she expresses her love for raw, organic beauty.

In a short interview with the artist, we take you on a discovery journey through her brand, her latest collection and so much more.

Tell us about the vision behind Nayla’s Ceramics and your sources of inspiration.

My vision is to create timeless, artisanal pieces that bring warmth and character to any space. I draw inspiration from the cities that have shaped me – Dubai, where I have lived since 1985; Paris, with its beauty and elegant simplicity; and Beirut, with its rich textures and earthy tones. Each piece reflects elements of these places, blending modern aesthetics with organic forms and a sense of heritage.

In which way do the pieces you create represent your idea of decorating a space?

For me, decorating a space is about creating a sense of harmony and authenticity. My ceramics are designed to be more than just decorative objects; they are meant to be felt, used and enjoyed in everyday life. I love the idea of mixing textures, playing with neutral and warm tones, and incorporating organic shapes that bring a natural touch to any environment. Whether it’s a sculptural vase, a minimalist bowl or a statement piece, each creation is made to add depth and soul to a space.

How does the creative process go?

The process always begins with a feeling or an image – sometimes a color palette, a texture I see in nature that catches my eye. From there, I start experimenting with different forms. I let the clay guide me as I shape each piece by hand. When it’s completely dry, sometimes after a week or more, it undergoes its first firing. Afterwards, it’s glazed and undergoes a second firing which is the final stage that always carries an element of surprise – each piece emerges from the kiln with its own unique character. In fact, the many stages of transformation are quite magical to witness. 

Tell us about your latest collection and what kind of decorative style inspired you to create it?

My latest collection is inspired by raw, organic beauty – the imperfect yet harmonious forms found in nature. I’ve been experimenting with textures and soft colors. The collection is minimal yet expressive, designed for those who appreciate subtle elegance and handmade charm, where beauty is found in simplicity, irregularity and natural materials.

Where can Nayla’s Ceramics be found, and what are your future plans for it?

Nayla’s Ceramics is currently available through direct sales, pop-up exhibitions, a few concept stores in Dubai and Kuwait, and on my Instagram page (@naylasceramics). I love the personal connection of meeting clients and seeing my work find a home with people who truly appreciate it. Looking ahead, I hope to expand my presence in more curated boutiques and concept stores in the region that align with my artistic vision.
