The splendor of nature has always been a theme dear to Japanese architect Tadao Ando, and the latest collaboration that brings him together with BVLGARI was a great chance to express this passion through the Roman Maison’s iconic Serpenti Tubogas timepiece. The celebrated architect has in fact molded his design language around the apparent simplicity of forms and the purity of materials, maintaining a direct harmony with nature.
To evoke the seasons, Tadao Ando envisioned colorful marquetry – of green aventurine, tiger’s eye, and pink or white mother of pearl – taking over the watch’s dial. The creative process started with a meticulous selection of the most visually striking fragments of each material, and each piece was then precisely traced and cut. Finally, the fragments were carefully fitted and assembled, creating a play of colors and reflections with organic expressiveness. Embracing this artistic arrangement are two rows of diamonds set along the serpent’s head to bring radiant life to this vibrant tableau.
After summer and autumn, it’s time for winter to cast its beauty on this emblematic design. Revealing its icy beauty, a marquetry of white mother of pearl is complemented by a gleaming steel case and bracelet. To make it even more special, each limited edition is encased in a box specially crafted and signed by Tadao Ando, a detail echoed on the back of each watch case.
