“The Collection” by Delvaux

“Once again, Delvaux interrogates its own history, savoir-faire and creations. We love contrasts, we love heritage, we love culture, we love innovation with the same guiding thread that creates harmony while surprising.” – Jean-Marc Loubier, C.E.O. of Delvaux

Though its latest presentation entitled “The Collection”, Delvaux took us on a journey consisting of 5 acts and reexplored its history, the history that has always defined it. Established in Brussels in 1829, it is the oldest fine leather goods house in the world as it was the first to file a leather handbag patent – proudly earning the title of the inventor of the modern handbag.

“La Reference” is a chapter in Delvaux’s history, displaying “Le Princesse” for the very first time to the public. Placed inside an amphitheatrical setting, the collection provides a dramatic glimpse into over a century of bold innovation and creativity.

“Art Nouveau” explores the language of nature and particularly draws inspiration from the work of Belgian architect Victor Horta, one of the founders of the movement. The collection features whimsical designs, blooming flowers, exquisite embroidery and sculpted masterpieces that echo the profound elegance of nature.

“Sur:Real” is a collection that pays tribute to the Maison’s long-standing relationship with Belgian Surrealist René Magritte, expanding its surrealist vocabulary with complex embroidery and printing of Magritte’s iconography onto its emblematic styles and unexpected additions to the Vagabond and Brillant families.

“Helios” is an exciting leap into the future as Delvaux has partnered with E-Ink to weave its coded ‘paper’ into a futuristic ‘tapestry’ using its leather mastery. This partnership that revolutionarily marries timeless with inventive materials transformed the Caprice and the Pin with technology.

“A Dialogue with the Artist” highlights the harmonious blend of contrasts that Delvaux and the artist Harry Nuriev embody. Nuriev’s use of cool, resolutely utilitarian materials – think steel, mirror and lacquer – provided the perfect complement to the warm sensuality of Delvaux’s materials and designs.
