Bag It Right – Choosing the Right Bag for Your Figure

Sometimes, you see a lady carrying a bag and think of getting it for yourself.

As soon as you carry it at the store, you realize that it doesn’t look as good on you as it was on her. Quite confusing, right? Well, you might be unable to discern the problem so we’ll handle it for you. Believe it or not, your body shape greatly impacts the success of choosing the perfect bag. So, before making the decision to invest in such a piece, let us take you through some tips that will help you make the ideal choice and avoid regretting your pick later on.

Are your shoulders, waist and hips of the same width? If the answer is yes, your body type is rectangular and what you need is to create the illusion of curves. With this in mind, opt for clutches that you tuck under your arm or for slouchy hobo bags worn on the shoulder, and avoid styles that rest on the hips or fall below them.

If your waist is the widest part of your body while your shoulders and hips are narrower, your body resembles an apple. So, the result you want to achieve is to de-emphasize your midsection in order to create the illusion of a smaller waist. Therefore, choose structured and boxy bags with short handles, rectangular totes or top handle bags. Avoid at any cost crossbody bags – which will accentuate your midsection, and small ones – which will make you appear larger than you actually are.

An inverted triangle body shape is characterized by shoulders that are wider than the waist and the hips. So, if this is your case, you must draw the attention away from your shoulders, to the lower half of your body in order to create balance. That being said, avoid bags with short straps and clutches, and opt instead for ones with long straps such as satchels, crossbody bags and belt bags that rest on the hips.

As for those with a pear-shaped body, which is characterized by narrow shoulders and wider hips and thighs, focusing on the upper half of the body is the way to go. Therefore, go for bags that fall between your waist and hips such as ones with longer straps or belt bags worn across the body.

Last but not least, those with an hourglass body shape are pretty much the luckiest. Although you still need to opt for a bag size that is proportionate to your height, you can literally choose any style!
