Prada’s Galleria, an Iconic Design with Meticulous craftsmanship

It was in 2007 that this Prada Icon was born. Named Prada Galleria after the brand’s historic flagship boutique opened by Mario Prada in the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II in 1913, it has become a canvas for Prada’s creativity and sense of imagination. Season after season, this ceaselessly rethought creation has become more than a wardrobe staple, it’s a reflection of today’s fashion.

After a fashionable journey, this iconic bag is reimagined in 2024 both in surface and in structure. An all-time classic, we can’t but praise the lightness of the Galleria Soft Grain, which transforms the attitude of the bag. In fact, the supple calfskin exteriors and nappa linings give the bag a fresh malleability, while its metal hardware is gold-plated and its color palette ranges from pure black to warm neutrals.

This version of the bag has also become the canvas for embellishments tied to the identity of Prada. From gold-plated micro studs that resemble dots of light and create through their hardness a paradox with the softer construction of the bag, to three-dimensional hand-worked leather floral blooms that stand as a true testament of the expertise of the brand’s craftspeople and are reminiscent of its ready-to-wear collections, the new Prada Galleria wonders are certainly an expression of the quintessential Prada identity and the craftsmanship for which Italy has always been known.

Much more than an iconic design, the Prada Galleria bag truly reflects the craftsmanship that lies behind every Prada creation – especially when it comes to the version that sees flowers bloom. After the bag’s design is created, a paper pattern indicating the placement of the flowers on the dial of the Galleria bag is printed and cut out. Once the cutter checks the leather, he proceeds with the cutting according to the paper pattern. If the bag’s design features flower blooms, the next step would be the cutting of the flowers’ components, followed by the assemblage of the leather petals which is achieved by the skilled craftsmen. Once the flowers take shape, they are fixed on the dial of the bag which is then achieved.
