From its foundation in Neimar in 1919 to its dissolution in Berlin in 1933 in the face of the growing Nazi threat, the Bauhaus was and still is an essential reference point in the cultural history of the 20th century. Finding its place at the crossroads of arts, artisanship and industry, it remains an influence in the contemporary creative arts as much as it was when founded.

In collaboration with the Hermès Foundation, the Paris headquarters of the Arts Décoratifs welcomes the first exhibition devoted to the iconic school in France since 1969, under the name of “The Bauhaus Spirit”. The latter focuses on Bauhaus’ workshops in an original approach and sheds the light on cross-disciplinary work, creativity, skills transmission and artisan expertise.

“The Fondation d’entreprise Hermès is delighted to support ‘The Bauhaus Spirit’, reinforcing our loyal support of the Arts Décoratifs over a number of years. Two years after co-producing the exhibition ‘Simple Forms’ with the Centre Pompidou-Metz in 2014, we are pleased to be partnering a second major project at a leading cultural institution,” stated Catherine Tsekenis, Director of Fondation d’entreprise Hermès.
