Did You Know…Who Was The First Supermodel?

Alessandra Ambrosio, Gisele Bundchen, Naomi Campbell…do these names ring a bell? Yes, you guessed it, these are a few of the big supermodels’ names- and we’re talking big money models. Being a model is not as easy as one-two-three; it requires a deep-rooted love for fashion and well, a willingness to stick to one tiny apple per day (even though all of your instincts are screaming otherwise). While we’re not so sure that “nothing feels as good as skinny does” we can’t help but admire these super long-legged creatures wearing the I-need-it-now outfit.

But have you ever wondered who the first supermodel to ever strut down the runway was? Were her measurements as per today’s requirements? Was she fuller? Thinner? Heck, invisible? (Kidding). According to recent studies, the first bodacious lady to be considered as a model was one who seemingly influenced a whole era of soon-to-be models: the great Betty Brosmer.

Think a blonde version of Betty Boop with a ten-time better hour-glass figure- outstanding, isn’t it? Debuting her career at just 13 years-old, beautiful little Betty won the title of “Miss Television” in 1950 and her fame unraveled into a ground-breaking phenomenon. But perhaps her most alluring trait was her perfect hourglass figure with exceptional proportions: 93.98 - 45.72 -91.44.

Sometimes, “life gives you lemons”. Or so one hopes, anyway. And well, the iconic Betty Brosmer really exploited her talents and channeled them into a prosperous career, making her the highest paid model at the time and most importantly, a true American beauty icon.
