Did You Know…Mini-Skirts Were Extremely Controversial

Women have a strange affinity for mini-skirts. It’s not so much “strange” as it is resilient. If you actually think about it, the subject isn’t quite a dilemma. Because why would you ever think twice about the length of your skirt, right?

Well, back in the sixties, this was a different case! But let us first consider the case at hand: a mini-skirt is a skirt with a hemline considerably above the knee (more or less 8 inches). While it was considered taboo for quite some time, one designer in particular made it a point to defy the odds. Meet Mary Quant, a lady who stood tall in front of public modesty and started the mini-skirt revolution, which eventually took its toll on style casters. What was once a scandalous item became a fashion must-have, as major designers such as Yves Saint Laurent and Paco Rabanne launched collections based on this trend, making it the It-item of the decade.

Along came horrid political tensions, what with the Vietnam War, and mini-skirts shifted to maxi skirts, as fashion took an insane turn. Attempts to revive this trend were on the rise amongst women, as they cheerfully ignited reforms and protests in support of the lovely teensy skirts and boy, did it have an impact on the fashion scene!

Since then, this groundbreaking frenzy turned all fashion enthusiasts topsy-turvy, making for an incredible pattern for decades upon decades to come! And hey, let’s call a spade a spade and admit that it was all worth the trouble!
