Giorgio Armani for the Italian National Team of the Rio 2016 Olympic and Paralympic Games

It seems that many designers are taking part of the Rio 2016 Olympic and Paralympic games’ dress code, as Giorgio Armani is billed as the official outfitter of the Italian Olympic and Paralympic teams, hence dressing the athletes for the official opening ceremony of the Olympic Games, which was in Rio de Janeiro.

Think stretch-cotton double-breasted blue suits with removable hood and straight, flat-front trousers with slit pockets. Think formal-albeit comfortable- uniform. Think signature blue polo shirt with the word ITALIA embroidered in gold on the bag, while shoes showcase the colours of the Italian flag. Could this be any less of an Italian-bound patriotism?

Giorgio Armani commented on this endeavour:  ‘I’m very happy with this renewed collaboration. I find creating uniforms for athletes a fascinating exercise in style, as I need to combine elegance and practicality, which is what I’ve always been interested in as a designer. In this suit, the double-breasted style sets a formal tone with aplomb, while the hood adds a decidedly sporty touch. The stretch material makes the real difference: true elegance always implies practicality, and athletes are the best testimonials of this concept’.
