Beirut Fine Dining

by Leonore Dicker

If there’s one thing we can all agree on, it’s how delicious the Lebanese cuisine is. While Beirut might be jam-packed with international gourmet restaurants, we have to admit that Arabic gastronomy is what the city does best. Here are our 6 favorite restaurants in (and just out of) Beirut.

Tawlet
Armenia Street, Mar Mikhael

Every day, a different local chef concocts lip-smacking dishes from his or her region in Lebanon. The feast is then presented as a buffet for all to enjoy. Beware though, Tawlet is only open at lunchtime and is closed on Sundays. Don’t miss out on this one!

EmSherif
Victor Hugo Str, Monnot

EmSherif –which is by far one of the most delicious Arabic restaurants we’ve ever been to– fuses Lebanese with Syrian cuisine. There’s no menu here, but an unlimited amount of dishes that will come your way while you sit back and relax in an ostentatious dining room that strongly resembles Ali Baba’s cave.

Sultan Ibrahim
Starco, Minet El Hosn, Downtown

This upscale restaurant offers scrumptious dishes and impeccable service. If you enjoy eating fish, then check Sultan Ibrahim out, as they’ll prepare the fish of your choice, any way you’d like (whether roasted, grilled, fried or raw).

Fadel
Naas Village. Bikfaya, Lebanon

Located up in the peaceful mountains of Bikfaya just outside Beirut, Fadel is a must-go-to destination for Sunday lunch. The restaurant’ssimple but exquisite fixed mezze menu includes all of the usual suspects, like hummus and tabbouleh.

Chez Sami
Maameltein, Jounieh Old Rd, Lebanon

Some say Chez Sami serves the freshest fish in the country. While this statement remains unsettled, everyone agrees that this restaurant is absolutely remarkable. From the beautiful view of the sea to the delectable menu, you won’t be disappointed.

Al Mayass
Trabaud Street, Achrafieh

Have you ever had Armenian food? If not, then book yourself a table at Al Mayassasap. This homey restaurant serves some of Beirut’s most delicious Armenian dishes, including Lamb Kebab in sweet and sour cherry sauce and cured beef canapés topped with fried quail eggs.
