How about a sunken bubble bath, cool drink and lovely view of the crimson sun sinking amidst the African ebony trees across the Zambezi River? We don’t know about you, but we sure find this idea very appealing. And here’s where you get to live it out – at the luxury safari lodge Tongabezi in the wilderness of the Zambezi. A great way to connect to nature, the Tongabezi Lodge – located 15 km upstream from the Victoria Falls – has its own “island paradise” camp, Sindabezi. The authentic appeal on offer makes it worth a stay.

Accommodation at Tongabezi is stylish and unfailingly captures the spirit of Africa through its five houses and River Cottages. Its spacious Garden Cottage offers more seclusion along with an exclusive dining room, two double en-suite bedrooms, garden and private plunge pool. The Tangala House – a spatial “family home” with four bedrooms and a private swimming pool – comes with its own vehicle, waiters, private guide and chef, courtesy of Tongabezi. Indulge in some elephant and bird-watching, if you stay here.

Each house – Honeymoon House, Tree House, Dog House, Nut House and Bird House – has been styled in a unique way and offers vantage views with either a private deck or balcony overlooking the mighty river. The Dog House too has its own valet, guide vehicle and boat so you can decide what you want to do during your stay – from guided fishing trips to river cruises, from walks to the Simonga village to a safari at the Chobe National Park. Feeling adventurous? Then visit the Livingstone Island or go white water rafting or fly like a bird over the Victoria Falls in a microlight.

Unwind after the safari in the open-air sunken bath or pick a perfect spot for a candlelight dinner under the canopy of stars. Either way, you’ll be happy being closer to nature and feel a strong sense of solitude.

Getting there: Fly in to Johannesburg International Airport and take a connecting flight to Livingstone airport (less than 2-hrs). Tongabezi is a 30-minute drive from there.
