It’s in the heart of the famous couturier’s childhood home in Granville, Normandy, that the Christian Dior Museum undertook the initiative to host a brand new exhibition entitled “Women in Dior– Sublime Elegance of a Portrait”, starting May 5th. But this is just the tip of the iceberg for the luxurious brand, as it is also announcing the forthcoming special book “Women in Dior – Portraits of Elegance”, published by Rizzoli. The cherry on top? It all takes part of a special dedication to the legendary women who have wondrously represented Dior’s one-of-a- kind creations! The book, written by the fashion specialist Laurence Benaïm, sheds light on the exceptional women’s deepest memories.
Come to think of it, the woman-meets-clothes equation is nothing but proof of sheer individuality. In other terms, you are what you wear! And Dior has successfully established this statement since 1946 by creating a unified relationship between the women and the numbers they’re wearing.
Coordinated by fashion historian Florence Müller, this exhibition will have us all booking holidays for Normandy, as it will be conveying a vast continuum of dresses, photographs, paintings, drawings and letters as an ode to the women in Dior. Who are they? Picture la crème de la crème of socialites, from HRH Princess Grace of Monaco to the Duchess of Windsor, Diana, Princess of Wales, Countess de Ribes, Leonor Fini, Olivia de Havilland, Jackie Kennedy, Patricia López-Willshaw, Francine Weisweiller, Marilyn Monroe, Charlize Theron, Elizabeth Taylor, Edmonde Charles-Roux, Zizi Jeanmaire, Mitzah Bricard, Suzanne Luling, Carmen Colle, Marlene Dietrich, Jennifer Lawrence, Natalie Portman, Marion Cotillard, Emilia Clarke and Rihanna.
