While the contemporary design scene is in search for lightness, Rado – renowned for its revolutionary durable watches – found a way to inject this element into this artful world. The global brand has invited famed trend forecaster Lidewij Edelkoort to curate a design exhibition, entitled “Designing Lightness”, that embodied this tendency and brought together innovative works by international designers.
Held from March 17th until March 21st in Switzerland, the exhibition highlighted the way a “weightless” socio-cultural philosophy is being embodied in design today. Based on the fact that “Material is the message and mindfulness is the movement”, objects were supplied with an ethereal energy that leads to a lighter existence.
Explaining her vision, Lidewij Edelkoort said: “A new generation is defining a different idea of style, ownership and luxury. Moderation and restraint are requested today; a mentality that favors quality over quantity and one that influences the way people look at the consumption of everything from cars to clothes and from food to travel. Modesty becomes a philosophy that goes beyond simplicity and minimalism, becoming another way of life made of essential choices with the planet and society in mind.”
