This year F. A. Lange Watchmaking Excellence Award 2015 honors once again an up-and-coming watchmaker with an achievement prize. This award to Finland goes for the second year in a row.

The award ceremony was held this month in Dresden’s Albertinum gallery, where Lange CEO Wilhelm Schmid awarded Reima Koivukoski with the esteemed prize. A student of the Finnish school of watchmaking Kelloseppakoulu, he designed a calendar-week display that depicts the axial tilt of the earth.  Inspired by Finland’s geographic position, this one-of-a-kind feature sees a contrast between the darkness of winter and summer’s white nights.

“His work reflects a style of his own, a sense of aesthetics and ergonomics as well as the courage to modify the architecture of the movement”, explained the jury in its statement.
