Recognized as a classic fashion icon, the Arab world’s music legend Umm Kulthum is featured in the “A Journey in Style” book. Showcasing a photography collection of style through the decades, the book has been launched by Heathrow Airport and supermodel Yasmin Le Bon to mark the opening of Chanel’s store in Terminal 5.

The exclusive book celebrates some of the most stylish travellers, outfits and luggage that Heathrow Airport witnessed since its opening in the 1940s. Highlighting the relationship between fashion and flying, the collection of over 160 archive photos includes stunning images of the elite jet-set throughout the years.

The hard-cover honors the most iconic style influencers of all time, from Marilyn Monroe, Marelene Dietrich, Mick Jagger and the Beatles to Kate Moss, HRH Queen Elizabeth II, Princess Diana, Jacky Kennedy and Umm Kulthum. The beloved Egyptian singer is captured in a photo upon her arrival at Heathrow in 1967, where she met with famous French actor Jean-Claude Pascal. Sporting her signature black sunglasses and her iconic up-do, “The Star of the East” reflects a sense of classic glamour in a bejeweled abaya with lace trim and a long fur coat.

The book marks the completion of a project that brings together some of the world’s most luxurious fashion brands to Heathrow Airport. Set to open on December 22nd, Chanel will be joining Louis Vuitton, Mulberry, Burberry, Cartier and Rolex, making LHR a global fashion destination.
