Known for providing a platform for artists and designers from all around the world, the region’s renowned art and design store Cities boutique will host an exhibition for Spanish artist Máximo Riera at The Mine art gallery in Dubai.
Held from November 12th till November 16th, the five-day exhibition will display Riera’s pieces, focusing on his signature Animal Chairs. From mammals to reptiles and insects, these creations cover a wide range of species in their real size.
With the intention of bringing the animal kingdom to the urban world and raising awareness for the special creatures many people are losing empathy with, Riera’s Animal Chairs look accurate and real. Made from polyurethane, each chair features an internal steel frame and a leather seat. Riera begins to reproduce his sketches in 3-dimensional digital images. The images are then used to precisely produce the sculptures using mechanized sculpting tools, in order to be assembled, sanded and hand-painted later on.
"It is always a privilege to be able to show your art and creations to an audience. And it makes it more special to have a location like Dubai, one of the most influential cities in the World,” says Máximo Riera.
After hosting exhibitions for Greek artist Fotis Gerakis and Lebanese designer Nayef Francis, this exhibit is the third in a series of events held by Cities to promote the innovative creations of talented artists. This time, Riera gives the region its share and creates 3 exclusive pieces that will be revealed during the exhibition and available for sale at Cities boutique after November 16th.
