"Behind the symbol of travel, we find Christian Dior's star and the idea of a good luck charm, but also the rose, his favorite flower." - Victoire de Castellane

Victoire de Castellane, the famed French jewelry designer who has headed Dior Fine jewelry since 1998, designs Dior’s newest fine jewelry icon – the Rose Des Vents. The eight-point star reinterprets one of Christian Dior’s most cherished symbols and takes us through a journey of Monsieur Christian Dior’s illustrious past.

The story begins at the heart of Christian Dior’s childhood, in Grandville, Normandy where the wind rose motif was an ever-present symbol in his upbringing. His home overlooked the Channel Islands where boats passed as they journeyed to the Americas and beyond. The garden is where Christian Dior’s love of flowers, particularly the rose, came alive. He designed a wind rose motif at the bottom of the home’s pool. Years later in Paris, Christian Dior stumbled upon a mysterious star on the ground. That lucky charm compelled him to open his couture house and kept that same star in his pocket throughout his life’s journey. Reinterpreted in 8 points, Christian Dior’s favorite number, the wind rose is a timeless symbol of travel and adventure. Its rose shape and lucky star are both at the heart of Christian Dior.

This is a piece intended to be worn everyday. The double-sided medallion is held together with a delicate chain. On one side, tiny pieces encircle the medallion in an eight-point wind rose motif. On the other, hard stone carefully selected by Castellane covers the medallion. Mother-of-pearl symbolizes gentleness, femininity and wellbeing, turquoise represents strength, pink opal signifies protection while lapis lazuli is an emblem of serenity and friendship.
