A Conversation with Hair Artist Joe Sroor

Driven by the motto “Art has no rules”...

Driven by the motto “Art has no rules”, Lebanese hair artist and salon owner Joe Sroor always explores the latest hair trends through his artistic take on hair styling. Under his creative direction from hair to fashion and through his lens, he launched a series of projects entitled “Art of Imagination” and presented his vision of the newest hair trends for 2024. Let’s discover what he has to say about this year’s latest vogue and so much more.

As a hair artist, how do you define hair styling today?

As a hair artist, hairstyling today is the new generation of the wet look. The wet look today can be achieved in any way we want. We can add glitter to it and the ends of the hair are not necessarily wet as we can style them the way we like; they can be wavy or straight. Hairstyling is also completed with the outfit that the woman is pulling off. It’s in this way that she shows her identity.

Tell us about the latest trends in hair colors, cuts, and styles.

In 2024, curtain bangs are on trend now more than ever. As for the length of the hair, long hair with a short curtain bang is the ultimate trend in haircuts. In the past years, curtain bangs were paired with a fully layered haircut. What is different today is that curtain bangs are now paired with a non-layered haircut.

As for the hair colors that will be trending this year, we have the nude pink, the pale red and the pearly blond. Although blond and ombré hair are still in the game, but these 3 colors are the catchiest this year.

In hair styles, the trending ones are the wet look and the messy low buns. A woman can opt for an artistic style using the hair itself and glitters, or for a simple one. In addition, not any color of glitter is trending – the trending ones are limited to silver, red and gold.

“The Contrast of the New Black” is your latest project. Who is the woman you had in mind when you created these hair artworks?

I thought about a classy woman who sets herself apart by the edginess of her style. She is a woman who has a classy attitude that she pairs with an edgy style, one far from being classic and boring.

What is the idea you wanted to communicate through these hairstyles?

Around October 2023, I started developing this idea in a series entitled “Art of Imagination”. The first chapter was “RED IS THE NEW BLACK” and it was released in December 2023. When Yves Saint Laurent Beauté launched the Black Opium Eau de Parfum Over Red and Dior adopted the red color, the idea became even clearer and I released the second chapter of my project, which is “THE CONTRAST OF THE NEW BLACK”, in 2024.

How do you think this project addresses the Arab and Lebanese women?

The Lebanese and Middle Eastern women are the most updated in the world on hair trends. Women in our region are generally very interested in the latest trends – whether in beauty or fashion – and these are the women who I address through the hairstyles I present through this project. For instance, you might find a bride pulling off a wet look with glitter on her wedding day. These hairstyles are familiar, innovative, edgy, and distinguished all at the same time, and those who are looking for such styles will certainly love them.

Based on your expansive expertise in hair art, how far would you think a woman would go to pack a statement through her hair?

Lebanese and Arab women can go as far as 85% to pack a statement through their hairstyles, while in Europe, this percentage drops to 35% although the region is home to all trends in beauty and fashion. In terms of hair trends, Africa comes after the Middle East.
