According to the Oxford dictionary, a muse is “a woman, or a force personified as a woman, who is the source of inspiration for a creative artist”.

This book recounts the story of thirty-three wonderful women who have inspired great men and consequently enabled the creation of some of the greatest works of the past two centuries.

Would Man Ray have been considered a creative genius, had it not been for his apprentice, lover and muse, Lee Miller? What about Pablo Picasso; would he have been remembered as one of the world’s most famous artists if he hadn’t met his muse, Dora Maar? It’s unclear.
