Among all the necessities that summer brings with its hot, sunny weather, applying sunscreen the right way remains a hustle. We so love to sit on the beach and soak up the sun, but what this enjoyable activity might entail is something that certainly isn’t favored by our skin. So, let us give you some helpful tips and tricks to apply it the right way.

  • In terms of amount, your face – including your neck and ears – calls for a generous quantity of sunscreen and this is where the two-finger rule comes in handy. To cover all these areas, dispense sunscreen along your pointer and middle fingers and divide this amount on all of them. As for your body, especially when at the beach, you will need one ounce, which equals a shot glass full of sunscreen, reapplied every two hours or more if you’re swimming or heavily sweating.
  • The ideal SPF number is 30 and that applies when you’re committed to reapplying every two hours throughout the day. More SPF doesn’t necessarily mean that you are more protected, but a higher SPF is a little bit of a safety net if you tend to forget reapplying sunscreen regularly. Although it still doesn’t offer the needed protection all day long, it remains better than applying SPF 30 once.
  • If you have a sensitive skin, mineral sunscreens are your go-to. Free of chemical ingredients, they don’t irritate the skin. The bonus? They are also available in tinted formulas for those who hate the white traces that sunscreens usually leave especially on the face and neck.
  • Don’t forget your lips, as they also need protection! Using a lip balm with SPF would be the best solution.
  • Apply sunscreen even if you’re spending the day indoors. Did you actually know that UVA penetrates through glass? So, better make this beauty must-have a part of your morning skincare routine.
  • Last but not least, apply your sunscreen before going out and getting distracted, and if you’re willing to go the extra mile, set a reminder on your phone to reapply it every two hours when you’re away. It might be a hard task, but it’s worth it, for the love of your skin!
