For the Summer-Fall 2023 collection, Creative Director of Alaïa, Pieter Mulier, shed the light on the essence of the House, exploring its meaning, anatomy, psychology and soul with purity, simplicity and directness. The main focus was clear and had no distractions: the fundamental of Alaïa. In order to do that, he turned methodologies of construction into means of decoration and translated the curvilinear, a universal shape traced by Alaïa, into garments and accessories reflecting how this line of innate sensuality is the quintessence of the female in a precise yet natural way. In other words, a history was traced through cloth echoing the past of Alaïa and suggesting its future.
A collection full of contradictions, yet with a great ease and simplicity, it brings out the beauty of both tight and voluminous garments while a dark color palette gets breached with lively touches in the form of a pinch of gold, beige, white, blue or denim – to name a few.
