As Haute Couture Week is fast approaching, it would be a great idea to enlighten our new readers about the true meaning of Haute Couture, or offer those who know a reminder of what this title entails. Although explaining it is pretty simple, becoming a haute couture house is the absolute opposite.

Literally translating into high dressmaking, Haute Couture is all about unique, made-to-order garments that reflect the highest level of savoir-faire and creativity. And for a fashion house to become a member of the Chambre Syndicale de la Haute Couture, extremely specific rules are required. First off, the house must be able to design made-to-order pieces for private clients and provide them with the chance to do more than one fitting in its workshops. In addition, the fashion house must employ more than 15 full-time staff and 20 full-time technical workers in one atelier.

This is not all, as the fashion house is required to present every season – in January and July – a collection of 50 looks minimum, ranging from day to evening styles. Now that you are aware of all that makes a Haute Couture House so special, you must be impatiently waiting for a week full of charm and sophistication!
