For Stella McCartney’s Summer 2023 show, the Centre Pompidou piazza witnessed a democratic demonstration. Models walked a colored runway in looks that brought fashion and art together, featuring the work of legendary Japanese artist Yoshimoto Nara which was inspired by his slogan “Change the History”.

Bias cut skirt suits, lingerie with hints of seduction, body jewelry of chains and diamanté crystals peeking from under the jackets and barely-there fishnet stocking shoes were at the heart of the collection. Further reaffirming the Stella DNA and codes while mixing the casual with the formal are classic t-shirt dresses ornamented with metallic silver crystals. Denim was taken to new heights with cuts of vegan alternatives to leather, while iconic Stella creations – such as stretchy crinkle knit dresses, t-shirts and dresses with bias-cut hems – acted like canvas for the Japanese artist’s illustrations of big-eyed girls, sinister children in animal costumes and activist slogans.

While these looks were nothing but a mere example of what this colorful runway witnessed, accessories were a world of their own. The collection was completed with vegan Stella 100 heels, crystal-embellished versions of the iconic Falabella clutches and S-Wave party bags, S-wave shoulder bags made of a grape-based alternative to animal leather, Frayme Mylo™️ crafted from mycelium and vegan strappy Opanca heels with padded soles. Well, in conscious fashion, Stella certainly is the one to take the lead.
