10 years of world records are celebrated with a new one – or at least that’s how Bulgari does it! For the 10th anniversary of its Octo collection, both the Roman house and city celebrate with a bang. It’s the new Octo Finissimo Ultra unveiled as the world’s thinnest mechanical watch to not only redefine the codes of Haute Horlogerie, but also to prove that innovation knows no limits.
From the caseback to the top of the sapphire crystal – movement included, the watch is only 1.80 mm thick. This world record for a mechanical watch and the eighth for the Octo Finissimo collection was, as Managing Director of the Bulgari Watch Division Antoine Pin explained, driven by the word ‘ultra’, which “expresses this desire to go beyond the limits, to play with extremes”. And so, this new Octo Finissimo Ultra watch was born, challenging the designers, engineers and watchmakers to start from scratch and rely solely on existing concepts – making this challenge the most difficult to overcome as described by Fabrizio Buonamassa Stigliani, Bulgari’s Product Creation Executive Director.
In its iconic pure and elegant design, the new timepiece retains its monochrome style signature of sandblasted titanium, its integrated bracelet that’s as thin as the watch and most importantly, its 40mm octagonal case despite its record-breaking thickness. Also building a bridge between the past and the future, a QR code engraved on the barrel’s ratchet-wheel takes the owner on a discovery journey of a world dedicated to their watch. This is not all, as the celebration continues with each of the ten first Octo Finissimo Ultra timepieces being paired with an exclusive NFT artwork that guarantees their authenticity and uniqueness – not to mention the launch of the two emblematic Octo Finissimo Automatic and GMT Automatic Chronograph 10th Anniversary editions limited to 200 pieces each. Well, if this is not a celebration, we don’t know what is!
