It’s in the cradle of Western civilization and of European arts, Athens, that Dior chose to uncover its Cruise 2022 collection. Inspired by this exceptional destination, Maria Grazia Chiuri reinvented her genealogy and revisited the House’s codes by creating her own map of Greece. From the works of Giorgio De Chirico to vases decorated with wrestling matches by Alexandre Iolas, the collection was nourished by the designer’s references and poetry, presenting giant silhouettes featuring sketches by the artist Pietro Ruffo. Camouflage made an appearance on a selection of sportswear pieces, while white trouser suits brought to mind those worn by Marlene Dietrich and created the perfect balance between classicism and freedom. Think oversized houndstooth going Greek and the cannage motif taking new abstractions.
Heritage met modernity within the iconic Panathenaic Stadium, where the show was held, to express more than ever the love that the Dior woman carries for the liberty of movement.
