Do you have Eczema?

We have all experienced itchy dry skin, but what is the difference between just needing a little moisturizer or actually suffering from eczema?

We have all experienced itchy dry skin, but what is the difference between just needing a little moisturizer or actually suffering from eczema?

Atopic dermatitis or “eczema” is when the immune system attacks areas of the skin like elbows or wrists where there are creases. It is most common in young children, but you can still have it throughout your adult life. It also attacks areas like the face, hands and feet. It’s basically an allergy to something like pollen or dust. A vicious cycle begins when you start itching and making the area worse. People suffering from eczema can also have asthma or other breathing issues. This is usually genetic but once you figure out what triggers it you can try to stop the cycle. Even stress can bring this on along with very hot weather, or something just as simple as exposure to allergens in detergents or clothing dyes. It’s important to keep nails short to keep from itching.

After a shower it is also very important to moisturize. If you feel the need to itch, try reaching for a cold compress instead.
Eczema isn’t really known to be caused by food and sadly, there really isn’t a cure for it, but you can manage it. Try taking a look at what you are exposing your skin to and seeing when you are having a reaction to keep it under control.
